Bio

Jonathan Luke is one of the most exciting emerging performers and writers in American dance music. The 6’ 3” former model’s passionate, breathy vocals and throbbing, layered production has endeared him to the hardcore club set and the hippest underground DJs and musicians in the industry today.

His “Joy Toy” was a 2010 nominee for the Out Music Awards’ Best Dance Song—and the video, which Jonathan also directed, was a fan favorite on the Logo network’s NewNowNext PopLab and Click List. His tracks have also proven popular among buzzy filmmakers, turning up on the soundtracks of award-winning shorts and in the trailer for the cult-smash Japanese anime, Gilgamesh, a highlight of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. His latest single, the haunting The Bird Has Flown, is now poised for radio and club play, as its darkly sexy video cues up at cool cable TV outfits. A full-length EP is forthcoming.

An accomplished guitarist and keyboardist, Jonathon is a dance musician’s musician, having collaborated with the world’s most inventive DJs, from Cairo to California. And his original songs—he’s written dozens—have been recorded by the likes of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” diva Thea Austin, a Billboard chart-topper universally regarded among the world’s top dance-music artists.

Jonathan’s musical interests are wide-ranging. He grew up singing in a traveling country band, sort of South Texas’ answer to the Partridge Family. And he also writes and records sophisticated ballads a writer from Houston magazine described as “technically astonishing studies in sexuality and raw emotion.” But dance music, with its primal edge and upbeat energy, continues to be his primary focus. “As a dance artist,” he says, “I have the power to influence the way people feel.”

A graduate of the Houston School for the Performing and Visual Arts—Beyoncé was a schoolmate at H-Town’s version of the Fame high school—Jonathan lives and works in a home studio the city’s hip Heights neighborhood with his basset hound Cleo. His interests beyond music include acting and gourmet cooking.
