Yemi Marie Biography

She has released her first album, opened for Chaka Khan, performed at the Trayvon Martin rally and been featured in the media numerous times, but these accomplishments simply have fanned the fire in Chicago teen singer Yemi Marie. The 16-year-old artist with a golden voice continues to demonstrate she has the talent, charisma and determination to conquer the world of entertainment – and win the hearts and souls of music lovers.

The 16-year-old makes her debut with the CD 12/11/12, which was inspired by her goal of finishing her first album at the age of 15. The disc, which boasts a blend of mature vocalized R&B along with a youthful, upbeat hip-hop-infused style, has launched Yemi Marie into the hearts of music lovers of all ages while setting her apart from her teen peers.
On her first music video and single, “Draw the Line,” Yemi draws it down by offering a unique perspective of a strong independent young woman who sets herself apart by encouraging young listeners to make positive decisions. On “Old Fashioned Love,” she offers a lyrical ballad that shares the endearing magic of a special relationship. “Sunny Day” is a fresh, throbbing beat with an uplifting lyrical melody. Yemi Marie’s music is not solely an urban sound, but a blend of rhythmic soul melded from various genres of musical influences.

As a child, she sang in her grammar school’s talent show, wowing students and teachers with her take on “A Song for Mama,” made famous by Boyz II Men. Although influenced by fellow Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson, as well as Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Whitney Houston, the teen has worked hard to develop her own style while learning to play the piano and fine-tuning her song-writing skills. She has performed before crowds both large and small while honing her vocal abilities and stage presence.

Her diligence and hard work are paying off, for now the beautiful young woman’s moving vocal performances make listeners forget that she is only 16. In 2012, Yemi Marie was named Top Talent by the Talent Shines International Talent Convention. Her performances, for which she earned top scores against thousands of contestants, were broadcast live around the globe from Disney World in Orlando.
Yemi Marie’s inherent gifts extend far beyond her vocals. A true entertainer, she is trained in several forms of dance – Hawaiian, African, modern, hip-hop and tap. She strives to inspire others through her love of song and dance.

Yemi Marie performed before thousands on the Main Stage each day of the 2013 Black Women’s Expo at McCormick Place in Chicago. The audiences were wowed by her take on Etta James’ “At Last,” which she sang a cappella, and “I Love You I Do (Perfect Man)” performed by Jennifer Hudson in Dream Girls. Audiences also enthusiastically applauded her performances of her own hit “Draw the Line.”

The teen also performed for thousands of Chicago middle-school students at an Arie Crown Theatre concert for middle-school students who “earned” this special treat based on school attendance and overall performance. Yemi Marie headlined with Universal/Motown teen recording artist B. Smyth (“LEGGO”), 14-year-old singer Kiana (“Code 9”) and Chicago’s Jay Adams (“Please, Please”).
Yemi also was invited to participate in a “Pitch It To Me” networking event hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists Chicago. The teen artist sang her pitch to a panel of media experts from print and broadcast outlets, and received positive response. That led to Yemi being interviewed the next morning on the Perri Small Show on historic WVON Radio.

Yemi Marie’s current musical producers, mentors and influences have worked with many of today’s marquee talents, but she remains humble and focused on enhancing her musical abilities and growth as an artist, vocalist and true entertainer.
